We got a call last week for graffiti removal on some rough concrete blocks at a school in Littleton.

And with the temperatures in the 40’s, we wanted to try a new material we had used a few times before to see how effective it would be in these colder temperatures. Like most soaps and degreasers, the material used for graffiti removal doesn’t work as well when it’s cold. Sometimes it won’t do the job until it warms up.

And if the graffiti is on the shady side of the building, it makes it worse. The sunny side of the building will warm up quickly, especially a surface like brick that will absorb the sunlight. Fortunately the brick wall the graffiti was on wasn’t in the shade, but the sky was overcast so we didn’t get much warming.

The surface of the brick wall was very rough and the material needed to be worked in with a brush to reach all of the paint. We scrubbed the material in and let it soak a few minutes, then pressure washed it off.

The material we wanted to try had been given to us by their company sales representative. We had tried it in the past and it wasn’t very effective. He told us it had been updated and worked much better.

The company rep was right – it worked much better than when we had tried it a few years ago. This is why we always test new material – you never know when it will work better than what you had been using.

And while this graffiti removal material isn’t the only one we use, it will be more effective in situations like this rough brick surface.
