Graffiti Removal At Longmont’s Sandstone Ranch

by | Apr 25, 2018 | Graffiti Removal

The City of Longmont called us for graffiti removal at Sandstone Ranch, a park a few miles outside of the city.

There was a big story on the CBS4 local news channel and in the Longmont Times Call newspaper about the large number of tags. Many of the rock faces were covered and the people who went there to visit nature were outraged.

Graffiti Removal At Longmont's Sandstone Ranch 19LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) – Part of why many people love living in Colorado is spending time in our great outdoors.

Unfortunately, vandals changed the scenery in a favorite community park in Longmont.

Sandstone Ranch is located just a few miles from the heart of the city of Highway 119.

“It is an oasis right outside the city you can see eagles and hawks,” said one longtime resident. Last week he found his oasis covered in graffiti.

The sandstone cliffs that parallel trails throughout the park were covered with juvenile drawings and random phrases, some vulgar.

Vandals paint graffiti on rocks at Longmont’s Sandstone Ranch

Graffiti Removal At Longmont's Sandstone Ranch 22(LONGMONT, Colo. (Longmont Times Call) Longmont police are investigating vandalism at Sandstone Ranch, where graffiti featuring phrases and symbols was scrawled across the rocks last week.

The graffiti at the regional park, 3001 Colo. 119, was first reported Friday, and police responded Tuesday to inspect the damage. Multiple writings and drawings can still be seen on the rocks, including the phrases “Look at the trees” and “I’m watching you,” the latter written next to a drawing of what appear to be eyes. Some of the other graffiti appears to be random markings, letters and numbers.

Longmont police Cmdr. Joel Post said that a sign was left behind featuring the words “The Nut Gang” along with the date “3/19/18.” Post said several paint cans also were found at Sandstone Ranch.

Police have not yet been able to identify a suspect or suspects, but Longmont police Cmdr. Joel Post said that if caught, the vandals could face criminal mischief charges depending on how much damage the graffiti is estimated to have caused.

Post said crews will work to remove the graffiti, but added that it “could be kind of tricky” because the paint is on sandstone.
