Wash On Wheels Removes Graffiti From the Same Water Tank for the Third Time in November

Calls for graffiti removal have always been more frequent in the warm months, especially when school is out. Water tanks are an attractive target for tagging due to their visibility. But the recent surge in graffiti is much higher than expected this time of year.

Denver graffiti removal services are more in demand than usual this time of year. Since most tagging occurs at night, cold temperatures provide fewer opportunities. With November daytime temperatures of 50-60 degrees in Denver and nighttime temperatures rarely dipping below freezing, tagging is occurring much more frequently than expected.

The repeated tagging of the same water tank suggests it’s likely the same perpetrators. And when the costs of the graffiti removal climb into hundreds of dollars, it goes past the point of being a childish prank. In this instance, the water district decided to get the Aurora police involved.

Removing the tags as quickly as possible is the best way to prevent more graffiti. If the graffiti is gone before the taggers can show it to their friends, their ‘reward’ is removed.

Just like children who misbehave to get attention, taggers need people to see their efforts. If they were really trying to be artistic as some taggers claim, they would draw on paper or canvas and show it to people who might appreciate it – instead of removing it as soon as possible.

Since many tags – like the ones on these water tanks – are done in locations without access to electricity and water, the required equipment must be portable and have a large enough water tank to get the job done. Some locations can’t be reached by pulling a trailer-mounted unit and some even require a 4-wheel drive truck.

Graffiti removal isn’t cheap. The materials to remove the tags without damaging the underlying surface are expensive. And the truck-mounted pressure washing equipment costs thousands of dollars.

And the water district has to pass those expenses on to all the people in their district.
