Pressure Washing Greasy Equipment Isn’t As Easy As You Might Think
A small construction company called us for pressure washing some greasy construction equipment.
We had the job scheduled but someone at their company changed their mind and they decided to rent a pressure washer and do the job themselves. Since the man who called and talked to one of our managers wasn’t the one who called and cancelled, we expect they might be calling us again after they find it isn’t as easy as they thought.
Pressure washing grease off of equipment – with a cold-water machine – can take a long time, if it works at all. It’s like washing grease off your hands with cold water and no soap.
Doing the job right takes hot water and the right kind of degreaser. There are places that rent hot water machines but they’re much more expensive.
And keeping the burner working properly is the most difficult part of pressure washing maintenance. Since we have more than 20 units and do all the maintenance in house, we deal with touchy burners all the time. All of our trucks have two machines so we can be certain of getting the work done.
There are many different degreasers on the market. Not all of them are designed for use in pressure washing. Finding the right one to get the grease off your equipment efficiently isn’t easy.
We’ve tried many different degreasers to find the ones that work best in dirty automotive conditions. Some don’t work at all and some that work great are way too expensive. And some of them will take all the paint off along with the grease.
Then you have to know the proper pressure and techniques for removing grease. If you don’t do it right, you’ll just blast it from one surface to the other and never get it clean.
By the time you rent a hot water pressure washing machine, learn how to use it properly, and find the right degreaser, it usually costs more than just calling a professional pressure washing company to do the job.
