If your boat is oxidized, you need a good boat detailing to restore the shine.

Oxidation on boats can make the gel coat finish look dull and old. And if you haven’t had your boat detailed in a few years, you may not notice how dull the finish has become.

Oxidizing happens slowly over time and without a good picture of what it looked like before, you might not be aware of how much better the surface could look.

But if you don’t give it a good buffing and polishing every now and then, it can get so bad you can’t get the original shine back.

Boat Detailing To Remove Oxidation 16

Oxidation doesn’t show as much on dark boats – until they’re polished

We’ve had people bring their boats in after five years or so – and even though we can make them look better, we can’t bring back the original luster. So if you want to keep your boat looking bright and shiny, you have to buff and polish it every few years.

All those hours sitting in the sun and water is hard on the finish. The oxidation can eventually get down into the gel coat and cause permanent discoloration.

These photos show a dark red boat that had a lot of oxidation that wasn’t very noticeable since the boat was so dark. But when you look at all the white powder on the buffing pad, you can see how much came off.

Make sure you don’t let your boat get so bad that the shine can’t be brought back. A little loving care every few years can make a world of difference.
