Cleaning Trucks After a Historic November Snowstorm
Well Over a Foot of Snow Fell in Much of Our Service Area Last Week
In Colorado, we’re used to snow this time of year. In many years, trick-or-treaters need to wear winter coats over their Halloween costumes. So the timing of this first big snowstorm of the year was not all that unusual – but the amount of snow that fell last week certainly was. The Denver area hasn’t seen this much snow in November in over 40 years.
Our business certainly took a hit with this storm. Most of our car dealer customers cancelled early in the week due to the forecast. There are other types of work we can keep doing, even during winter weather, but by Wednesday, the deteriorating conditions caused us to make the decision to keep our crews home and off the roads.
Some of our fleet customers did keep rolling during the storm, and their vehicles showed it. They needed to be cleaned, but they are only available during limited times when they’re not out on the road. The snow didn’t stop falling until Saturday morning and it took much of the rest of the day to really start melting and clearing up. We had a limited window of time to get the jobs done.
Sundays are normally our one day off each week, but we took advantage of the clear skies to come in today to catch up on our fleet washing service.
After the relatively nice fall we’ve had, this storm was a reminder of the challenges of pressure washing vehicles in the winter. Magnesium chloride and other de-icing chemicals that are sprayed on the roadways coat vehicles with a nasty film that requires extra scrubbing to clean. And while appearance is important, keeping trucks clean is vital to keep them running at their peak performance. Storms like this cause a lot of extra muck to get stuck up under the wheel wells, behind the cabs of semi-tractors, and in other areas that need to be clean for drivers and maintenance crew to keep the trucks up to DOT specs.
The temperatures really warmed up this afternoon and so much of the snow has melted that it’s already hard to remember what it looked like around here just a day and a half ago. That’s Colorado weather for you.
Whatever the weather, we make sure our customers with fleets have nice clean trucks, vans, and cars to show off their image around town, around the state, and around the country.
