Wash On Wheels Lands New Denver Truck Washing Account – FedEx Freight

FedEx Freight recently went through a major expansion and the truck wash company they were using couldn’t handle the increased volume.  FedEx now has about 320 tractors and trailers they need washed on the weekends, with more on the way.

They called Wash On Wheels to see if we could help them out. Since we have six 3-man crews, we can wash a lot of trucks. Adding 320 units is no problem for us.

So why didn’t FedEx Freight just build a truck wash bay?

Any company that runs the numbers will find that running their own truck wash bay doesn’t make economic sense. By the time you spend a few hundred thousand to build one (or more with all the EPA requirements) then buy soap, water, hose, spray guns, etc., the cost gets out of sight pretty fast.  Then you still have to pay someone with a CDL license to drive the trucks through the wash bay. And I can guarantee they aren’t going to wash 14 units per hour like our crews.

Why couldn’t the other truck wash company handle the FedEx account?

Most truck washing can only be done at night or on weekends when they aren’t making deliveries. Pressure washing companies that only wash trucks have a tough time keeping good employees because of the strange hours they have to work.

Wash On Wheels doesn’t have that problem because of the variety of other work we do.  We wash 8000-9000 cars every week for Denver’s largest car dealers. The same crews wash sidewalks, parking garages, docks and dumpster areas at many large shopping centers, grocery stores, hospitals and restaurants along with many other types of specialty jobs.

Because we keep the same guys on the same crews doing the same routes (as much as possible), our crews are able to get their jobs done efficiently.  Since most of our work is done during the day, the amount of hours our six crews spend washing trucks doesn’t force them to change their lifestyle. They usually work one day on the weekend and a few early mornings during the week.

Keeping this balance for our employees improves the quality of their life and the quality of the work they do for our clients.
