Consumer Reports released a review on a new pressure washer yesterday.

A pressure washer with settings for cars and siding is the title of the review. All pressure washers have different settings – they’re just not called settings. You put a different type of tip on the end of the wand for different spray patterns.

The new pressure washer has a head that rotates to move a different tip into the stream of water instead of taking the tip off and replacing it. The tips used on commercial machines are made of heavier material and it would be difficult to get seven of them inside this small head.

This unit is designed for the homeowner who will only use it occasionally, not the 8-10 hours a day like a professional pressure washing business does. So the tip may hold up for the life of the unit – only time will tell. And not having to keep track of the different spray tips should be a benefit for most homeowners.

Consumer Reports mentions more than once how you have to be careful not to damage the surface you’re washing. They have a video at the bottom that shows some of the potential damage if the machine isn’t used properly. They even show one homeowner who tried to rinse his feet off with his pressure washer and now has the scars to prove how bad an idea that was.

So while pressure washers can do some amazing cleaning, you have to use them the right way or you can cause a lot of damage. If you’re not sure of what you’re doing, it will cost you more than calling a professional company to do the job for you.
