Boat detailing is not the same as car and truck detailing. The differences aren’t dramatic but they’re important – if you want a good job.
The Finish Coats Are Different
Most cars and trucks have a clear coat finish over the paint to protect it and make it shine. Boats have a gel coat finish. Sometimes they will have clear coat on the top surfaces that don’t go in the water but never on the under water areas. Unfortunately, both types of coats lose their shine over time.
Clear coat is thinner and softer than gel coat but is less porous. So there are different compounds and techniques used for polishing the two different coats.
It’s important to make sure the company you call to polish your boat knows the difference and has the experience to get you the best results possible.
