Pressure Washing In Denver’s Crazy Weather
On Monday, we had our trucks out pressure washing cars for Denver’s auto dealers.
The forecast was for sunny days with highs in the 40’s
We washed our regular Monday schedule and some of our Friday clients who had cancelled last week because of the predicted heavy snow on Saturday. Which, by the way, turned out well below the amount forecast.
One of our snow plowing accounts called us Friday to make sure we could get to them on Saturday morning so they could stay open for business. The forecast for 8-14 inches of snow had them concerned no one would be able to get in their parking lot.
A little too cold for pressure washing!
They never needed to be plowed because the snow wasn’t deep enough. Snowfall varied throughout the city and some of our other snow plowing accounts didn’t need to be plowed, either. They just needed a little shoveling on the sidewalks with some ice melt thrown down.
The forecast for this week was for temperatures well above freezing every day. It looked like we would be able to get in a full weeks work, the first in many weeks.
This is the first year since 2006 that we’ve gone more 30 days without at least one night above freezing. We can usually schedule our trucks to go out on that one warm night to get all our work done. Pressure washing the sidewalks and entrances at the restaurants and shopping centers on our schedule has been impossible.
The streets were already melting before this post was updated
Yesterday’s forecast was for temperatures in the high 40’s with no chance of moisture. Then, around 3:00pm, we noticed a slight chance of rain and snow had been added to the forecast.
We sent one truck to get another load of ice-melt, just in case. And it turns out we needed it. At 10:00pm last night, it was lightly snowing but supposed to stop before midnight.
This morning, it was still snowing at 9am and we were calling the guys we had scheduled to do pressure washing to tell them to stay home.
It’s understandable that those little mountains to the west of us make it impossible to know exactly what will happen with the weather. But the forecasts are much less dependable than they were a few years ago.Pressure washing in Denver winters is always a challenge. But it’s much more difficult when the forecasts are so unreliable.
